Favorite Scenes

Papa G's Death - Netflix - (Drama, Emotional Storytelling)

This was a very difficult scene to storyboard because it includes the death of one of the main and most beloved characters of the series. Papa G is Kid Cosmic's grandfather and caretaker, but while looking for a way to defeat the villain, Fantos, Papa G is crushed by a rock slide. Kid tries to dig through the rubble to find his grandfather and begins remembering the fraught circumstances that brought them together so many years ago. It was a very emotionally demanding scene because we had to show the love that Kid has for Papa G. I drew on the love and admiration that I have for my own grandfather while working on it, and subsequently, this scene is one of the favorite things I've done in my career.

Nate's Mental Infighting - Nickelodeon - (Action,Comedy)

This scene was meant to show how Nate is mentally struggling with his alter ego, Nathaniel. Nate is usually a slacker and a slob but Nate's split personality, Nathaniel is the exact opposite. So I developed the battle between them to highlight each personality's strengths as they fight each other. Nathaniel is orderly and bound by rules and logic where Nate is a creative  free-thinker. It was a lot of fun to find ways to turn those traits into weapons and styles of combat.

Too Hot for Fun! - Nickelodeon (Comedy)

The goal of this scene was to show that the weather at Kamp Koral is unbearably hot. I was to show how miserable it is for the campers in the funniest and most entertaining way possible. Bubble Bass and his friends have a scheme to blow up the sun in order to quell the heat, but obviously, things don't go to plan.

Webby's Revelation - Disney TVA - (Drama, Emotional Storytelling)

This episode was the series finale of DuckTales and the section that I storyboarded had one of the most important story reveals of all three seasons. I was given the difficult task of revealing that Webby is a clone of Scrooge McDuck. It was very important to get the emotions of the scene

correct since the information changes EVERYTHING that Webby thought to be true. Webby had to experience so many complicated feeling including, sadness, wonder, incredulousness, and then pride with this emotional rollercoaster of a scene. It was a heavy lift, but I am very proud of our final product and I think the success of the scenes storyboarded added to the heart and fantastic storytelling that fans of the show continue to enjoy.

** My storyboard pro files for my DuckTales work were lost in an unfortunate hard drive incident, so I am presenting the final animation of the sections I storyboarded

Glomgold's "Son" - Disney TVA - (Comedy)

In this episode, I had to storyboard a bit where Louie tries to expose that Glomgold's "son" is really just a ventriloquist dummy. Again, I love making Glomgold look like a fool so I had a great time finding ways to show his incompetence and stupidity in this truly bizarre situation.

Planet Killer's Arrival - Netflix - (Drama, Cinematic Storytelling)

In this clip, we have a nice little dialogue scene between Papa G and Flo relating on how hard it is to parent children. Their conversation is interrupted by a flash of light and a giant planet-killing planet teleporting through an enormous portal on a collision course with our main characters at their intergalactic truckstop. Our showrunner, Craig McCracken really wanted the moment to feel powerful and frightening so I pushed the scale and camera angles as much as I could to get a sense of hopelessness from our characters in the face of such an overwhelming foe.

Skating on Thin Ice - Nickelodeon - (Comedy, Musical)

In order to not fail gym class, Nate has to learn to figure skate and he finds an unlikely partner in his weird friend, Chad. The scene was to be a montage showing how Nate struggles but then slowly improves due to Chad's angelic skating skills. We also see Nate's secret crush, Kim Cressly sing a love ballad about Nate while hiding in the bushes. I had never storyboarded any figure skating sequences, so this was a challenge, but a fun puzzle to solve.

DuckTales

Battle Against Fantos - Netflix - (Action)

In our climactic season 3 Boss Battle, we had to show how our characters outsmart our main villain, Fantos. There were a lot of moving parts and a head-scratching amount of movement to this fight sequence. It was difficult to keep everything straight on from a story perspective, but I love deciphering the best way to clearly show a fight in the most entertaining way possible.

Scrooge McDuck's Funeral - Disney TVA - (Drama, Comedy)

For this episode, I was responsible for storyboarding Scrooge McDuck's funeral. Luckily, the story reveals that Scrooge is not dead, but we had to present a "bait & switch" to the audience so that they didn't get ahead of the story. I chose to push the melancholy and sadness at the top of the scene as much as I could so that the comedy hits harder when Glomgold enters to gloat to everyone about beating Scrooge. Finding ways of making Glomgold look like an idiot was one of my favorite aspects of working on this show.

Heist of Fire and Ice - Netflix - (Drama, Action)

This was one of the most complicated storylines that I have ever storyboarded. It was a "heist episode" where our heroes had to work together and use their special powers to steal the "Fire & Ice" power stones from the two-headed intergalactic mob boss, Fiosa. Each part of the heist's plan had to be established clearly and then visually executed without being confusing. I love "Ocean's 11" style storytelling, so this was a fun challenge to take on.

More Money, More Problems - Disney TVA - (Action)

This episode was the penultimate climax of our season 2 story arc where we find that Louie has tricked Scrooge into transfering all of Scrooge's wealth, thus becoming the richest duck in the world. However, a magical zombie like creature is cursed to chase and destroy the richest duck in

the world, so we find that Louie has bitten off more than he can chew. This sequence was difficult in the fact that so much carnage happens in such a small section of Duckburg. However, we utilized broken buildings, flipped cars, and other things to corner Louie to push the sense of danger and drama until he eventually finds humility, thus breaking the curse.

Francis's Great Escape - Nickelodeon - (Comedy,Drama)

In this scene, Nathaniel (Nate's "Type A" split personality) has taken over Francis' room and family position back at Francis' house. Francis has to quietly escape from his situation in a Shawshank Redemption style prison break in order to try to remove Nate's alter ego and get things back to normal.

The Trickening - Disney TVA - (Horror, Drama)

In our Halloween/Horror episode, the kids explore a creepy haunted house in order to find Dewey, who has gone missing. I wanted to push the scary factor as much as I could so I researched tons of cinematic language from classic horror films like Friday the 13th, The Ring and The Conjuring and then applied those storytelling techniques to my work. I think it paid off pretty well. I always love tackling a new genre or storytelling style by researching and picking apart what works and what doesn't for the feel that we are looking for.
